
The Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Abbas Tajudeen, Ph.D, strongly condemned the killings of two individuals in the Kofar Gayan area of Zaria.
The attack, carried out by suspected bandits on Saturday night, resulted in the deaths of the two individuals. The bandits shot indiscriminately and attempted to kidnap several others but were unsuccessful.
Speaker Abbas expressed his deep concern about the unfortunate and barbaric killings, especially as they occurred shortly after the collapse of parts of the Zaria Central Mosque, which claimed several lives. He denounced these acts as abhorrent and expressed his disgust at the loss of innocent lives.
The Speaker, who represents the Zaria Federal Constituency, highlighted the recurring attacks in Zaria and its surroundings over the past few years. He emphasized the need for the security agencies to enhance their efforts in safeguarding the lives and properties of Nigerians.
In a press statement issued by his Special Adviser on Media and Publicity, Musa Abdullahi Krishi, the Speaker called for a thorough investigation into the attack and killings, aiming to identify the perpetrators behind this cowardly act.
Speaker Abbas acknowledged the peaceful nature of the Zaria people and their harmonious coexistence in the ancient city. He urged that the activities of the bandits should not disrupt the tranquility and stability that has been maintained for years.
Describing the attack as calamitous, horrendous, tragic, heinous, and disgusting, the Speaker called on the security agencies to take immediate action in apprehending those responsible. He emphasized the importance of not allowing such evil acts to go unpunished.
He extended his condolences to the families of the victims, praying that Allah (SWT) would grant the departed Jannatul Firdaus and provide the families with the strength to bear the painful loss. Additionally, Speaker Abbas expressed his sympathy to the Kaduna State Government, the Emir of Zazzau, His Royal Highness Amb. Ahmed Nuhu Bamalli, and the people of Zaria for the unfortunate incident.
