Kwara Govt Constitutes Committee To Oversee Implementation of AGILE

Kwara State Government has established a steering committee to oversee the implementation of the Adolescent Girls Initiative for Learning and Empowerment (AGILE) project. This project, supported by the Federal Government and the World Bank, aims to improve access to quality secondary education for girls.

The formation of the steering committee is a result of the state government meeting all the necessary requirements for participation in the program, including the payment of N150 million as a commitment fund. The committee consists of various government officials, including the head/Commissioner of the Ministry of Education (as chairperson), Commissioners for Finance, Health, Women Affairs, Social Development, Youth Development, Environment, and Communications.

Other members include the Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Education and Human Capital Development, the Executive Chairmen of the State Universal Basic Education Board and the State Teaching Service Commission, the Executive Director of the Agency for Mass Education, the Chairman of the State School Based Management Committee, the Coordinator of the Civil Society Action Coalition on Education for All, and the State Project Coordinator (as Secretary).

The committee will meet periodically to evaluate the progress of the state’s sub-projects, provide analysis and recommendations to the National Project Coordinating Unit, approve annual work plans, budgets, and procurement strategies, ensure the achievement of performance targets, track performance using key indicators, facilitate effective communication and access to information, monitor feedback and grievances, and assess the outcomes of the project’s implementation.

The counterpart funds will serve as an initial investment for the AGILE program, which aims to enhance secondary school infrastructure, improve hygiene facilities, reduce dropout rates among girls, and enhance overall educational outcomes.
