By Nurat Uthman

Yesterday, Governor Biodun Oyebanji of Ekiti State announced that the state will soon be powered by the 3.5MW Independent Power Plant Project, which is expected to be completed in September. This initiative aims to drive economic growth in the region.

Governor Oyebanji made this statement during a stakeholders’ engagement program held in Omuo-Ekiti, the headquarters of Ekiti East Local Government Area. The event was organized to mark his 300 days in office and give an account of his stewardship.

The governor highlighted that the Independent Power Plant project is 90% complete and will provide electricity to government offices and tertiary institutions in Ado Ekiti and its surrounding areas. This development will address the issue of inconsistent power supply experienced in certain parts of the state.

Governor Oyebanji further stated, “We are also working on reconnecting Ikogosi, Erijiyan, and Ikogosi Resort Centre to the national grid, which will enhance the state’s tourism corridor.

Additionally, we require N1 billion to restore power to Ayekire, Ekiti East Local Government, and their Local Council Development Areas (LCDAs) after a decade of darkness. We are also planning to connect the Agriculture Processing Zone at Ikole to the national grid.”

In terms of improving security, the governor mentioned that solar lights have been installed in the Atikankan area of Ado Ekiti to illuminate the surroundings and deter criminals from using it as a hideout. Furthermore, the government has extended the 33KV line at the Omisanjana Transmission Substation to Baptist High School and connected the Ilawe 33KV line with Erinjiyan-Ikogosi.
