The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps in Oyo State paraded three individuals on Tuesday for allegedly vandalizing and stealing street light cables belonging to the state government.

The suspects are Aliu Musa, 29, from Togo, Godwin Lakur, 26, from Anambra State, and Joseph Michael, 25, from Taraba State.

The state Public Relations Officer, Oyindamola Okuneye, presented the suspects to the media on behalf of the state Commandant, Michael Adaralewa, at the Command headquarters in Ibadan. They were arrested on Friday, July 28, around 2:00 am in the Nihort Ile-Titun area of Ibadan.

According to Adaralewa, the suspects admitted to similar operations in July, where they vandalized and sold the cables in the same area for N40,000.

In addition, the command also paraded Opeyemi Aanuoluwa, 24, for allegedly stealing a tricycle in the Ita-Akinloye area of Oje, Ibadan.

Adaralewa stated, “On August 15, 2023, around 6:00 am in the Akinloye area, Oje, Ibadan, the suspect, Anuoluwa, stole a tricycle and damaged some parts of it before driving it away.

However, due to the tracker positioned on the tricycle, it was later located by an officer of Oyo who was in Iseyin on the same day.”

During their separate interviews, the suspects confessed to the crimes.

Anuoluwa expressed remorse, saying, “It was the devil that led me to steal the tricycle. I did it because I don’t have a job. When I saw the tricycle, I decided to steal it so I could use it to make a living. I am deeply sorry for my actions.”
