The Commissioner of Police in Anambra State, Aderemi Adeoye, has rewarded a Police Inspector with a cash prize of N250,000 for refusing a bribe from suspected thieves.
The Inspector, named Charity Oyor, was on traffic duty at Onitsha Main Market when she noticed a shuttle bus carrying six bundles of stripped armoured cables, which were suspected to be stolen.
Instead of explaining how he came to possess the cables, the driver attempted to bribe Inspector Oyor, but she rejected the offer. She immediately contacted her Divisional Police Officer, Superintendent Joy Ikpeama, who led a team of officers to the scene and arrested the suspect.
The cables were confiscated and taken to the station for investigation.
At the station, the suspect once again offered a bribe of N500,000 to be released, but this was also rejected.
The DPO informed the Commissioner of Police about the arrest and the recovery of the cables.
The Commissioner then ordered the State CID in Awls to take over the case and investigate the origin of the used cables.
During a ceremony in the Commissioner’s office on Friday, the CP commended the DPO for her leadership and Inspector Charity Oyor for her integrity.
He encouraged all personnel in the command to uphold the professional ethics by refusing to be compromised while carrying out their duties.
Inspector Oyor expressed her gratitude to the CP for his generosity and vowed to continue dedicating herself to her beloved job.
