Ogun Police Arrest One for Vandalizing IBEDC Transformer

The Ogun State Police Command reported that on Friday, operatives from the Owode Egba Division apprehended a suspected vandal named Adewole Adekunle, 28, and seized a vandalized transformer belonging to the Showo community in the Kobape area of the Sagamu-Abeokuta Expressway, Ogun State.

The arrest was made in response to a complaint by villagers who informed the police about the vandal’s activities at around 4:30 a.m. on Friday.

According to a statement from the spokesperson for the state police command, SP Omolola Odutola, released on Saturday, the DPO of Owode Egba Police Division, CSP Popoola Olasunkanmi, promptly responded to the distress call with his team and apprehended Adewole Adekunle at his residence in No 28, Eleko, Ajah, Lagos.

Other members of the gang managed to escape into the nearby bush, leaving behind a Volkswagen bus with registration number EKY 202 YG Lagos State, along with its documents.

At the crime scene, the police recovered an Itel phone, a digger, a chisel, 11 large spanners, 25 small bolts, 11 large spanners, a large pincher, a polythene bag containing various clothes, and a vandalized transformer.

Efforts are currently underway to locate and apprehend the remaining members of the notorious vandals for possible prosecution.

The Commissioner of Police, CP Abiodun Alamutu, has been informed and has ordered that the culprit be charged to court as a deterrent to other potential vandals, warning scavengers to stay away from government properties or face legal consequences.
