Former President, Chief Olusegun Obasanjo has refuted the claim that he met with President Bola Tinubu at the 80th birthday reception of the Alake of Egbaland, Oba Adedotun Gbadebo on Thursday.
A video clip was posted on the TikTok social media platform with the profile name “@asiwajuwoldwidef” falsely claiming that Tinubu and Obasanjo met on Thursday.
In a statement by his Special Assistant on Media, Kehinde Akinyemi, Obasanjo denounced the fake post, which also included a conversation between the two that took place when Tinubu visited him last year before the general elections.
Akinyemi stated that the former President, who is currently in South Africa for the burial of his friend and brother, Prince Mangosuthu Buthelezi, said that the person responsible for the fake post should look elsewhere for work and not involve him.
According to Obasanjo, he has not seen Bola Tinubu since his visit to his house in Abeokuta during the campaign. He also clarified that he was at the church, not the reception for Alake’s 80th birthday.
To provide context to the video, during Tinubu’s visit last year, he found Obasanjo playing a traditional game called ayo.
Tinubu jokingly commented on seeing him play the game at that time of the day. Obasanjo responded by saying he was jobless and willing to work if Tinubu offered him a job. Tinubu then prayed for Obasanjo’s long life as they entered the sitting room with others.
Obasanjo clarified that he is not looking for work or working with anyone, contrary to what the viral video suggests. He declared that those seeking to work with Tinubu should not involve him.
