Kwara Govt Seals Off Quarry Site Operating Illegally



In a bid to rid the state of illegal business outfits, Kwara State Government has commenced the sealing off of Quarry Sites operating without necessary documents to validate their operational mode in the State.

The Acting Executive Chairman, Kwara State Geographic Information Service (KWGIS) Esv. Abdulkareem Babatunde Sulyman led government team to some of the Quarry Sites along Eyekorin express way, in Asa Local Government of the State, where the business was at it’s peak, as Trucks were sited loading stones from the site.

Addressing the press, Esv Sulyman said “this exercise became necessary, as part of KWGIS responsibilities to control the activity of Quarry in the State and ensure that business is run within the purview of Government.

“We discovered that some companies were causing damages to our land, through their kind of business. There are Federal presence here, especially the bridge and blasting taking place at the surroundings. By implication, the bridge is being affected, which is of course detrimental to human existence as well as the safety of those in the neighborhood”.

The Chairman explained that the team was there to seal off the premises, with an instruction that the affected companies report to his office with all the necessary papers that permits them to operate.

He however warned perpetrators that government will not fold its arms watching illegal operation of quarry business is ongoing in the state, adding there shall be consequences, if they are caught.

At the time of filling this report, no single staff of the Quarries made himself available to the press.

In his entourage, were the Acting Administrative Secretary, Mrs Motunrayo Adaran, Director Physical Planning, Tpl Taiye Mohamed, Deputy Director, Tpl Sunday Idowu and other senior officers of the Agency.
