Former Liberia President, George Weah Congratulates Bassirou Faye As Senegal President Elect

Former Liberian President, George Weah has congratulated the 44-years-old Bassirou Diomaye Faye for securing his spot as the President elect for Senegal pending the official announcement by the electoral body.

George Weah made the congratulatory statement via his official social media handles.

The statement reads in part as follows;

A MESSAGE OF CONGRATULATIONS AND SOLIDARITY TO BASSIROU FAYE FOLLOWING HIS ELECTION AS PRESIDENT OF SENEGAL

March 25, 2024

I extend warm congratulations to Senegalese opposition politician Bassirou Diomaye Faye on his victory in the country’s presidential elections, which has now propelled him to becoming the youngest leader on the African continent.

Faye’s story should serve as an inspiration to the continent’s burgeoning youthful population; that with hard work and dedication, no dream is unrealizeable and unattainable.

Until a few weeks ago, the 44-year-old was a relatively unknown figure in Senegalese politics.

It was his burning desire to see a change in the status quo that endeared him into the hearts of millions of Senegalese.

Considered by his people as a “modest” non-tranditional politician, the former tax collector was driven by his ambition to help change the status quo. I wish him good luck on his remarkable sojourn.

His story reveals a growing reception across the African continent for leader s who are not from the establishment political class.

Faye’s win is also a victory for Democracy in Africa.

May I also use this opportunity to appreciate President Macky Sall for his diligent stewardship that navigated Senegal through turbulent winds to deliver free and fair elections. His legacy as a champion of democracy and good governance will remain etched in the annals of history.

Congratulations once again to the next president of Senegal.
