Yahaya Bello Was Chosen Because of His Youthfulness, But He failed, Says Reno Omokri

Renowned political commentator and former aide to ex-President Goodluck Jonathan, Reno Omokri, has criticized the performance of Governor Yahaya Bello, stating that his emergence as governor based on his youthfulness did not translate into effective governance.

In an interview on the ‘Mic On Podcast’ program hosted by Channels Television’s journalist, Seun Okinbaloye, Omokri highlighted the importance of digging deeper into the competence and capabilities of political candidates beyond their age.

Omokri acknowledged that Bello’s ascension to the governorship of Kogi State under the platform of the All Progressives Congress (APC) was due to his youthfulness, following the untimely demise of late politician Abubakar Audu. However, he expressed disappointment in Bello’s performance, stating, “I don’t think that in Kogi State, he did the best job. I think that he could’ve done a much better job especially when he was chosen by General Muhammadu Buhari after the then-candidate of the All Progressives Congress died.”

He further criticized Bello’s representation of the youth, asserting that despite being chosen because of his youth, he failed to adequately champion the interests of young people in Kogi State. Omokri concluded by questioning Bello’s suitability as a role model for the youth.

Governor Yahaya Bello’s tenure has been marred by various controversies and criticisms, with concerns raised about governance issues ranging from security challenges to infrastructural development in Kogi State.
