Foundation Set To Launch Cashew Revolution In Kwara

_The first phase is targeted at empowering 10,000 households in Irepodun LGA and its environs._

JIFE Foundation, an Indigenous NGO in Kwara State is set to empower 10,000 Agric-prenuers in Kwara through a disruptive approach to cashew plantation for commercialization.

JIFE Foundation is the brainchild of Mr. Deji Adeleke, a diasporan Agro-preneur and innovator, and his talented wife, Mrs. Ife Adeleke co-founder of Plush Organic Limited, an organization based in South Africa.

The creative and business-oriented couple are celebrated for their efforts in redefining agro-business in South Africa through innovation and unconventional agricultural approach to farming. The duo founded the JIFE Foundation on the principles of empathy and empowerment, the NGO is dedicated to fostering sustainable development and uplifting marginalized communities with a focus on education, healthcare, agriculture, and environmental sustainability.

Interestingly, Cashew contributes substantially to the Nigerian Gross Domestic Product and foreign exchange earnings.

According to the National Library of Medicine (NLM) report, earnings from cashew nut exports amount to seven to eight percent of non-oil export earnings in Nigeria. The estimated export value from cashew nuts ranges from US$ 25 to 35 million per annum. Cashew production and processing activities in Nigeria, provide employment and livelihood for smallholder farmers, especially women.

Kwara South has been known as the breeding ground for cashew seeds in Kwara given the favorable vegetation and climate. However, cashew plantations are still primitively done with little or no innovation in the region. This has affected the outputs and revenue of the stakeholders.

JIFE Foundation is dedicated and committed to changing this narrative through a disruptive approach to cashew plantation,  technology transfer, and technical know-how for commercialization in Kwara. In line with the NGO’s agriculture and environmental sustainability mandates, the official launching of JIFE Foundation and the  Cashew Revolution Agro-empowerment program will be held on Saturday, 6th of July, 2024 at Anglican Girls Secondary School, Iludun Oro, Kwara State (9 am prompt).

The first phase of the strategic agro-empowerment program will kick off at Irepodun LGA of Kwara State. The empowerment is targeted at 10,000 households in Irepodun LGA and neighboring communities. Beneficiaries will be carefully selected based on set criteria and dedication to the sustainable development project.
