Governance in a participatory democracy is about ensuring the greatest good for the greatest number of citizenry. In other words the hallmark of good governance is the deliverance of the dividends of democracy.
As he commences his sixth year, the Senator representing Kwara South, Architect Oyelola Yisa Ashiru is rebuilding South senatorial district by reforming and re-engineering representative governance; establishing unique legislative partnerships to create employment opportunities; develop our human capital and empower our women and youth; modernize our agriculture and rural development initiatives to ensure food security and empowerment.
Ashiru ,who is the Deputy Leader of the Nigeria Senate, recognizes that the essence of representative governance is to ensure the welfare and security of citizens by facilitating their access to economic opportunities . This has enhanced his vision of re-engineering representative governance to be more responsible and responsive to the electorate at whose pleasure they all serve.
As part of this effort the Deputy Leader of the Senate has released his achievements in the last five years as senator representing Kwara South senatorial district of Kwara state.
In the areas of Infrastructure, the Architect has distinctively priorities township road network.
In Irepodun Local government area, he facilitated the construction of Ojude Okeki/Rabah/Afin/Ilaro road in addition to the construction of a portion of Ikotun/Offa road (2.6Km), construction of Ijagbo bridge and Ikotun Bridge in Oyun local government area.
In Offa Local Government Area, he embarked on an ambitious opening of abandoned township roads with the construction of Omolere/Ikolaba/Lanlu/Ajia/Popo,
ongoing construction of road and flood control in Asalofa/Obatiwajoye area,
construction of Tafa Joba road,
construction of Balogun Idi-Isin road, construction of Afolabi – Ade road, construction of Bulala-Obada road,construction of Imam Batara road and construction of Abogunugun- Popo road.These roads which were plied by township Taxis in the late eighties had reached an embarrassing height of delipidation own to neglect which has further increased vehicular pressure on the major township roads. This laudable initiative has facilitated more vehicular linkages within the town.
In the area of Tourism, Senator Ashiru has facilitated the
upgrading and beautification of Owu water falls and Ero ‘Mola water falls as tourism sites.
In areas of Education, Ashiru also recognizes that a dramatic turnaround on the educational infrastructure in the district will not just have a salutary effect on the learning environment but most effectively the performance of the students.
In furtherance of this noble cause, a tremendous interest was invested in facilitating educational projects for the senatorial district.
This includes the building of a block of Classrooms in Ejiu-Ile (Ekiti LG), block of three classrooms in Etan (Ekiti LG), block of two Classrooms in Igbonna (Oyun LG), block of three Classrooms in Oro-Ago (Ifelodun LG) and block of three classrooms in Offa LG.
Also is the building of block of three classrooms each at Gaa Jango and Kanmonu Alayin (Offa LG),
construction of block of two classrooms in Ganmo, block of two classroom in Elerinjare ,
Construction of block of two classrooms in Erin-Ile, block of two classrooms in Ijagbo, block of two classrooms in Okeiya-Ipo and
construction of another block of two classrooms in Esie/Iludun in Irepodun local government area.
In furtherance of the top priorities of Ashiru in bringing democratic dividends closer to the people, among which is to guarantee good health for the people of the constituency, the senator sponsored the training of Community Health Workers during the COVID-19 pandemic, facilitated
construction of Maternity Health centers in Epe Opin, Ekiti LG, Kajola and Ilale (Both in Oke-Ero LG),
Medical outreach in, Odo-Owa (Oke-Ero LG), Omuaran (Irepodun LG), Amoyo and Share (Ifelodun LG) Osi (Ekiti LG).
Construction of Maternity health center in Durosoto (Ifelodun LG), supply of medical equipments and drugs in seven primary health care centers in Offa, Erinle PHC, Araromi-Opin cottage hospital, Ekan PHC, Arandun PHC, Isanlu-Isin PHC, Oke-Ode PHC and
Construction of Health center in Oko, Irepodun LG, Maternity health center in Owode Market (OFFA LG) and another Maternity Health Center in Oko, Irepodun LG .
The new health centers will provide unhindered access to different degrees of health care services and enhance healthcare delivery
In driving a turn around in his agricultural initiative, Ashiru strengthend the capacity of the farmers with the provision of fertilizers to promote food production and enhance food security in the kwara South area.
Ashiru’s magic in this second term, in providing accelerated and responsive representation, perhaps is because there is no learning curve, this time, the speed of delivery is better in translating dreams to reality.
Training and empowerment to more than 20,000 youths and women in the next few months is in the pipeline while hundreds of windows and youths have equally benefited from this initiative in the past term.
In his aggressive drive to close the gap in infrastructural deficit, more than 50 communities across the seven local government areas have benefited from one or more of the following interventions.
This includes the construction of agro forestry halls, construction of vocational training centres, provision solar powered and hand pump boreholes , provision of street lights and provision/installation of 500kva transformers across the seven local government areas of his senatorial district
