The Akinola Cup Tournament has come to a thrilling conclusion, with Christian Comprehensive High School emerging as the winner after a penalty shootout against Oko Comprehensive High School.
The tournament, organized by the Oyebola Aniyaloye Foundation, aimed to promote community development, peaceful coexistence, and youth empowerment.
In his speech, the Founder of the Oyebola Aniyaloye Foundation, Engr Chief Paul Okikidayo Akinola, announced plans to launch a football academy to nurture young talents while noting that it will give them direct opportunities to link up with international clubs.
Engr Akinola recalled that the foundation was launched in honour of his late mother, who was passionate about giving back to society and helping people. Despite no foreign donations or support, the foundation has achieved significant milestones.
He pledged to continue without bias or political affiliations.
“We are thrilled to have emerged as winners of the Akinola Cup Tournament,” said an elated Captain of Christian Comprehensive High School, Balogun Damilare. “This victory is a testament to our team’s hard work and dedication. We appreciate the Oyebola Aniyaloye Foundation for this opportunity.”
Hon. Toyin Aremu, Senior Special Assistant on Transportation to the Lagos State Governor, commended Engr Akinola’s philanthropic efforts, urging others to emulate him.
“The Akinola Cup Tournament is a shining example of community development and youth empowerment. We need more initiatives like this to build a better future for our young people.” He added
The Chairman of the Akinola Cup Tournament, committee, Kehinde Sulaiman Guba praised the initiative, highlighting its impact on building relationships and grooming young people for future opportunities.
“We are proud of what we have achieved with the Akinola Cup Tournament. We will continue to support the development of young people in our community.” He said
Over 45 schools in Irepodun Local Government participated in this year’s tournament, with Christian Comprehensive High School emerging victorious.
The Oyebola Aniyaloye Foundation promises to continue its mission, fostering community development and youth empowerment through sports and education.
The winner of the Akinola Cup Tournament, Christian Comprehensive High School received a trophy and a cash prize, while the runners-up, Oko Comprehensive High School, received a cash prize of 50,000 Naira and 3rd place winner, Agbonda High School received a cash prize of N30,000 among other prices.
The launch of the football academy is expected to further boost the development of young talents in the community, providing a platform for them to excel in sports and education.
The event was graced by Oro Kingdom title holders, religious leaders, and political chieftains among others
