
The Kwara State Government has emphasized the importance of factual news reportage, urging members of the Association of Kwara State Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP) to prioritize accuracy in their reporting.
Commissioner for Communications, Hon. Bolanle Olukoju, made this call during a meeting with ASKOMP members, stressing that factual reporting is the cornerstone of journalism. She encouraged the practitioners to verify information before publication and offered her support in clarifying any doubts.
Olukoju also addressed concerns about journalist suppression, assuring the association of the government’s journalist-friendly stance.
The meeting explored potential collaboration opportunities to enhance the projection of state government activities, with the Ministry of Communications offering to hold periodic press briefings.
Earlier, in his remarks, the Chairman of the Association and Publisher of Informant 24/7, Mr. Salihu Shola Taofiq, appreciated the Commissioner for taking the time to meet with them, while also seeking clarification on some areas especially on the protocols involved in disseminating government activities.
In response, the Commissioner explained that the Ministry of Communications handles such and has been actively doing so.
Additionally, the Secretary of the Association and Publisher of Factual Times, Mr. Oyewole Oyelola, sought the Ministry’s collaboration with the Association in the online publication of government activities.
