The Kwara State Independent Electoral Commission (KWSIEC) has announced a shift in the nomination period for the upcoming local government elections.
According to a statement signed by the Chairman of KWSIEC, Muhammed Baba Okanla, the nomination period has been moved from July 1-5 to July 8-12, 2024.
The extension is a result of appeals from various political parties, which necessitated the rescheduling of their political primaries.
The nomination forms, KWSIEC 01 and KWSIEC 02, are for the Chairmanship and Councilorship Elections, respectively.
The commission has assured that any further adjustments to the election timetable will be communicated to the public as may become necessary.
This development is seen as a move to ensure a smooth and peaceful electoral process in the state.
The local government elections are expected to hold soon, with political parties and candidates gearing up for the polls.
The extension of the nomination period is expected to provide more time for aspirants to obtain and return their nomination forms, thereby increasing participation in the electoral process.
