The Deputy Senate Leader, Senator Oyelola Ashiru and Senator representing Kwara South Senatorial district has called on building control agencies in the state and local level to ensure effective monitoring of building construction.

Senator Ashiru who is a professional architect with over four decades experience, made this call as additional prayer on motion about Jos collapsed school building during Senate plenary on Wednesday.

His words: “I want to emphasize that at the root of these collapsed buildings is the lack of adequate supervision and professionalism on part of control agencies at local level-local government and state level.

“We should urge building control agencies both at local and state levels to be more professional, shun corruption and do their work (step up monitoring during construction).”

The Senate during the plenary presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio adopted the additional prayer to initial motion.
