Oyewale Oyelola, the Secretary of the Association of Kwara Online Media Practitioners (ASKOMP), has been elected as the Vice President 1 of the Nigerian Guild of Investigative Journalists (NGIJ).
The NGIJ National Electoral Committee Chairman, Olalekan Oladigbo, announced the results of the virtual election held on August 3, 2024. Mallam AbdulRahman Aliagan was declared the winner of the presidential seat, securing 57% of the total votes cast.
Oyelola, who is also the Editor of Factualtimes and a lecturer at Federal Polytechnic, Ado-Ekiti, was elected as the Vice President 1 – Administration & Communications Strategy. He is the founding Secretary of ASKOMP and will serve in this new role for the next two years.
Other elected executive members include:
– Comrade James Ezema (Vice President 2 – Investigations)
– Rowland Shuwa (General Secretary)
– Gbenga Shaba (Treasurer)
– Ifeoma Ikem (Auditor)
– Abdullahi Gulloma (Public Relations Officer)
The new executives are expected to lead the NGIJ in promoting investigative journalism and upholding the highest standards of media practice in Nigeria
