In a bid to redefine the academic landscape and foster a culture of excellence in IBAGUN community, the Rise-Up Scholarship and Mentorship Programmes recently completed its 3-day boot camp, leaving an indelible mark on the lives of 10 young scholars drawn across the Ibagun community.

The initiative in partnership with Effective Brains Learning Programs, founded by Mr. Girigisu and sponsored by Engr. Rilwan Jimoh-Cook is a confirmation to the power of mentorship, leadership development, and networking.

The boot camp, held at Effective Brains Learning Programs (EBLPs) Office at No 5, Royal Valley Estate, Opp. Timbam Car Wash, ILORIN, from August 28 to 30, 2024, featured a lineup of expert sessions, interactive discussions, and bonding activities designed to unlock the participants’ full potential. Day 1 set the tone for the program, with an introductory session that allowed participants to get acquainted with each other, the team, and the speakers, while sharing their expectations from the program.

Day 2 delved into critical topics, including mental health and stress management, career guidance, and entrepreneurship. Jimoh Habeebullah’s session on “Mental Health and Stress Management; How to Cope with Academic Pressure” resonated deeply with the participants, who acknowledged the importance of prioritizing their well-being. Girigisu Toyeeb Sulyman’s “Career Guidance” session provided valuable insights, while Jimoh Habeebullah’s “Studentship, Skills Acquisition and Entrepreneurship; Nigeria Reality” sparked a thought-provoking discussion on the interplay between academic pursuits and entrepreneurial ventures.

The final day of the boot camp focused on academic excellence, unionism, and time management. Mallam Abdulwaheed Onikanhun’s session on “Pros and Cons of Academic Excellence and Failure” encouraged participants to strive for excellence while acknowledging the value of learning from failures. Hussein Abdulbasit’s “Unionism and Politics in School” session highlighted the need for balance between academic pursuits and extracurricular activities, while Girigisu Toyeeb Sulyman’s “Time Management, Study Techniques and Goal Settings” equipped participants with essential tools for success.

The program’s coordinator, Muhammed Abdulrasheed Abiodun, emphasized the initiative’s impact on promoting academic excellence and fighting social menace in the community. “We aim to empower young minds, providing them with the necessary tools to succeed in their academic pursuits and beyond,” he noted.

“Growing up, we lacked access to mentorship opportunities in our community, where negative influences like oliganism, cultism, drug abuse, and social vices often thrive. To combat these menaces indirectly, we devised the Rise-Up Scholarship and Mentorship Programmes” Abiodun said.

He added that the primary goal of the program is to promote academic excellence, demonstrating to others that they too can strive for excellence in their academic pursuits.

On his part, the sponsor, Engr Rilwan Jimoh-Cook noted that through the initiative, financial support and mentorship was given to the 10 young scholars, encouraging them to reach their full potential.

Engr Rilwan added that by doing so, the initiative aim to strengthen the mindset of young community members, empowering them to make positive choices and create opportunities for themselves.

“Ultimately, we’re not only fostering academic excellence but also combating social vices in our community.” He said.

He pledged his continuous support for the scholars and the program, demonstrating his commitment to empowering young minds.

“I believe in the potential of these young scholars, and I am dedicated to supporting their growth and development,” he added.

The participants, selected based on their impressive UTME performance, expressed gratitude for the opportunity and prayed for the sponsor’s continued blessings.

According to them the program has been a game-changer and they have gained valuable insights, made new connections, and discovered their potential.
