The Deputy Senate Leader and Senator representing Kwara South Senatorial District, Arc. Lola Ashiru, has unveiled a 2-day empowerment programme aimed at empowering women and out-of-school youths in the region.
The event is scheduled to take place on October 16-17, 2024, at Monarch Luxury Palace Hotel, Ganmo, Kwara State.
According to Senator Ashiru, the first day of the programme, set for Wednesday, October 16, will focus on providing empowerment opportunities for women and out-of-school youths.
The following day, October 17, the event will commence at 10:00 AM, empowering Kwara South youths digitally.
In a social media announcement on his official Facebook page, Senator Ashiru highlighted the initiative’s alignment with the growing demand for Information and Communication Technology (ICT) careers among the district’s youth.
“In response to the overwhelming requests from our youthful constituents to embark on careers in Information and Communication Technology (ICT), my office has approved the allocation of supplementary laptops to digitally skilled youths,” he wrote.
To ensure fair and effective distribution, the Senator disclosed that his office has partnered with youth organizations within Kwara South, including the Kwara South Youth Organisation, Ibolo Youths, Ekiti Navigators, Igbomina Youth Assembly, Oke-Ero Youths Movement, and Offa Youth Council, to identify deserving candidates for the ICT support.
This collaboration is part of the broader ongoing project, “Digital Empowerment for Kwara South Youths,” which aims to uplift the district’s young population through skills development.
The initiative aligns with the ongoing “ICT Training and Digital Empowerment” project, focusing on equipping Kwara South youths with the skills and resources needed for self-reliance and digital literacy.
The programme will also extend support to women and out-of-school youths.
Senator Ashiru emphasized the importance of inclusivity in the district’s developmental efforts, stating, “We recognize our youths as crucial stakeholders in community development; we prioritize inclusivity in all projects and initiatives.”
The upcoming event is expected to bolster economic empowerment across Kwara South, reflecting the Senator’s commitment to addressing unemployment and promoting digital literacy among the youth.
The initiative also aims to provide a broader effort to equip marginalized groups with tools for self-reliance and community growth.
With the promise of technology-driven empowerment and support for local artisans, the 2-day programme aims to create sustainable opportunities that contribute to the socio-economic advancement of the senatorial district.
