The once-thriving Opin road, linking Ekiti to Idofin Community in Oke-Ero, has deteriorated into a death trap, impassable even for motorcycles. This critical route has become a hotspot for kidnapping, accounting for 60% of cases in Ekiti LGA. Despite the community’s unwavering voting support, particularly for Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRasaq’s administration, they remain neglected and marginalized.
Alara of Isare-Opin has urged the government to take immediate action, citing the devastating economic impacts and reduced tax revenues. “The deplorable condition of this road affects not just our community but the entire economy,” he emphasized.
Amb. Anjorin Babatunde, a youth leader, echoed this sentiment, labeling the road a “death trap” requiring urgent attention. He appealed to Hon. Q. Olododo, Commissioner for Works, to assist the community, emphasizing that fixing the road will foster a lasting relationship between the government and Opin residents.
Segun Francis Adebayo, a native of Ikerin Opin, expressed disappointment in the Kwara State Government’s priorities. “Critical roads like Opin are left unattended, while minor roads within Ilorin are interlocked. This is a clear sign of marginalization and negligence,” he said. Adebayo urged the government to decentralize infrastructural developments and support ordinary voters.
