The Nigeria Police Force has arrested several suspects linked to murder, armed robbery, and the illegal possession of firearms during recent operations across Lagos State. These arrests, part of the Force’s proactive crime-fighting strategies, highlight ongoing efforts to bolster public safety and security nationwide.
In an official statement released on Sunday and titled “Effective Policing: Police Arrests Murder Suspect, Recover Exhibits, Makes Other Preventive Arrests,” the Force Public Relations Officer, ACP Olumuyiwa Adejobi, detailed the successful operations carried out between February 5 and 7, 2025. The efforts resulted in multiple arrests and the recovery of illegal weapons.
“As part of its commitment to strengthening national security and curbing crime across the nation, the Nigeria Police Force continues to implement proactive strategies to address criminal activities effectively. These efforts reflect the determination to create a safer environment for all citizens while reinforcing public trust in the security apparatus,” the statement read.
The statement said on February 7, operatives from the Satellite Division in Lagos apprehended a suspect, Wisdom Obi, 24, during a routine patrol at Abule Ado bus stop along the Lagos-Badagry Expressway. Obi, who was riding an unregistered motorcycle, was found with a brownie pistol and 13 rounds of live ammunition concealed inside an MP3 radio.
“The suspect was taken into custody, with the motorcycle and recovered items documented as exhibits, while investigation continues,” the statement confirmed.
The same day, officers from the Orile Iganmu Division arrested four suspects—Kadir Ibrahim, Ifeanyin John, Oduwole Shola, and Rilwan Olajuwon—who were caught attempting to rob passengers stranded in a broken-down vehicle at the Ascon White Sand area.
The police advised the public to remain vigilant, especially in traffic, warning that criminals often disguise themselves as street vendors to target unsuspecting victims.
“The police strongly advise citizens to exercise vigilance and be wary of the cunning schemes of traffic robbers who blend in as innocent traffic traders, preying on unsuspecting individuals who find themselves entrapped in congested routes,” the statement added.
In another incident, police from the Ikoyi Division responded to a fatal altercation on February 5 at Falomo Square, Ikoyi. The dispute between Okeke Johnchris, 33, and William Wisdom turned deadly when Okeke allegedly used his Lexus saloon car to ram into William, causing severe injuries.
“William was rushed to Gbagada General Hospital where he later succumbed to his injuries,” the statement read.
Following the incident, detectives visited the scene, and the deceased was taken to the IDH Morgue in Yaba for an autopsy. “The suspect has been apprehended and is currently in police custody pending conclusion of investigations and arraignment,” the statement continued.
In light of recent events, the Nigeria Police Force has called on the public to resolve disputes through legal channels rather than resorting to violence.
“The Nigeria Police Force uses this medium to caution citizens against violent confrontations and encourage those offended to seek proper redress through stipulated legal procedures. Citizens must avoid taking the law into their hands,” the statement warned.
