APC Secures Landslide Victory In Katsina LG Elections

The All Progressives Congress (APC) has emerged victorious in the just concluded local government elections in Katsina State, winning all 34 chairmanship and 361 councillorship seats.

Announcing the results at the commission’s headquarters on Sunday, the Chairman of the Katsina State Independent Electoral Commission, Lawal Alhassan, confirmed that the APC secured the majority of votes across all local government areas.

Alhassan attributed the delay in releasing the final results to late submissions from some local governments. He explained, “As of midnight yesterday, only 24 local government areas out of the 34 had submitted their results to the commission.”

He further disclosed that the remaining results, which arrived on Sunday, came from Batsari, Charanchi, Dandume, Daura, Funtua, Kankia, Katsina, Mani, Dutsinma, and Sabuwa. With their submission, the collation process was completed, enabling the commission to declare the final outcome.

The election, which saw participation from five political parties—including Accord (A), African Action Congress (AAC), African Democratic Congress (ADC), APC, and Boot Party (BP)—ended with the APC securing a sweeping victory.

Expressing gratitude to stakeholders, Alhassan stated, “With the final announcement of the local government elections, the commission wishes to extend its appreciation to the people of Katsina State, especially the election stakeholders who provided the necessary support and cooperation that enabled the successful conduct of the polls.”

In response to the outcome, the Chairman of the Inter-Party Advisory Council (IPAC) in Katsina, Salima Boyi, acknowledged the results and emphasized the importance of unity and democratic progress. “As we gather here, I would like to acknowledge the recently concluded elections for the 34 chairmanship and 361 councillorship positions in our state. First and foremost, I commend the Katsina State Independent Electoral Commission for their efforts in ensuring a relatively peaceful and transparent electoral process,” Boyi said.

She added, “While we may have had our differences and concerns, we have conceded defeat and recognize the significant strides made in promoting democracy in our dear state.”
