On Tuesday, February 25, 2025, I received an invitation to attend Senator Salihu Mustapha Alubarika’s empowerment program, scheduled for Friday, February 28, 2025. As a loyal party stakeholder, I deemed it necessary to honour the invitation despite not being from the same senatorial district. Upon reflection, I can confidently say that attending was a privilege, as it was a truly remarkable event.

There is a well-known saying: seeing is believing. Missing such a significant occasion would have been deeply regrettable. Alhamdulillahi Rabbil Alamin, I had the opportunity to witness the event firsthand, and I can attest to its impact.

The program was a testament to Senator Salihu Mustapha’s dedication to service and his deep-rooted commitment to uplifting communities. His sincerity and vision were evident, making the empowerment initiative an undeniable success that exceeded expectations.

However, one aspect that stood out, albeit unexpectedly, was the noticeable absence of a significant number of political office holders and party executives. While there may be various reasons for this, their decision not to attend inadvertently raised concerns about unity, collaboration, and collective responsibility in governance and party affairs.

As committed party stakeholders, our allegiance should always be to the institution and the principles it upholds rather than to individuals. The strength of any political system lies in its ability to support initiatives that benefit the people, regardless of personal or political differences.

It was reassuring to see the presence of Senator Yisa Lola Ashiru, Hon. Owolabi of KWHA, and Hon. Olabanji, the APC Chairman for Kwara South Senatorial District. However, the absence of others was a missed opportunity to demonstrate solidarity in fostering development.

From my observations, certain concerns, particularly political alignments and future ambitions, may have influenced the decision of some stakeholders. However, it is essential to remember that leadership is ultimately entrusted by the Almighty, and every role has its appointed time.

It is my sincere belief that when an elected representative takes the initiative to empower those who entrust him with their votes, such efforts should be acknowledged and encouraged. Political differences are inevitable, but governance thrives on constructive engagement and mutual support.

The beauty of democracy lies in its ability to accommodate diverse perspectives while prioritizing the collective good. It is my hope that party members and stakeholders will continue to embrace dialogue, unity, and the shared responsibility of governance.

As we navigate the evolving political landscape, let us be guided by the principles of service, inclusivity, and respect for differing viewpoints. In the end, history will remember those who stood for progress, development, and the well-being of the people.

To my distinguished Senator Salihu Mustapha, may this experience serve as motivation to continue your good work. The true measure of leadership is perseverance in the face of challenges, and the ultimate reward comes from the people and the Almighty.

Senator Salihu Mustapha—forward ever, with grace and determination.
