The Kaduna State Command of the Nigerian Police Force has arrested 58-year-old Abubakar Aminu, popularly known as Galadima, over the alleged murder of his younger brother, Sani Yusuf, in Zaria.
Sources confirmed to Zagazola Makama that the suspect was apprehended on April 10, 2025, around 2:30 PM, following an investigation into the brutal assault that took place days earlier.
Both men are members of the royal lineage of the late Iyan Zazzau of the Zazzau Emirate, making the incident particularly shocking for the community.
The confrontation reportedly began on April 4, 2025, after Yusuf accused Abubakar of stealing N15,000. In a fit of rage, Abubakar allegedly launched a violent attack on his brother, repeatedly smashing his head against the wall until he lost consciousness. Witnesses say blood was seen flowing from Yusuf’s nose and mouth due to the severity of the blows.
Realizing the gravity of his actions, Abubakar allegedly tried to conceal the situation. He covered Yusuf’s face with a wrapper, handed over his phone to other family members—claiming Yusuf was merely sleeping—and then fled the scene.
Around 3:30 PM that day, relatives discovered Yusuf lying in a pool of blood. He was rushed to a private clinic but was denied treatment. The family then took him to Ahmadu Bello University Teaching Hospital in Shika, where his condition worsened. He passed away in the early hours of April 10, 2025, at about 4:50 AM.
The family has since laid Yusuf to rest in accordance with local customs.
Police sources confirmed that Abubakar is now in custody and that the case will be handed over to the State Criminal Investigation Department (SCID) in Kaduna for a thorough investigation.
