Kwara Govt, NALDA Partners On Renewed Hope Mega Farm Settlement Initiative

L-R: Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Afees Abolore Alabi; Executive Secretary, National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA), Engr. Corneleus Segun Adebayo; Special Assistant to the Kwara State Governor on Small Holder Farmers Intervention, Hon. Suleiman Abdullahi Belle after the meeting in Abuja, Tuesday.

The Kwara State Government is set to benefit from a landmark collaboration with the National Agricultural Land Development Authority (NALDA) under the Renewed Hope Mega Farm Settlement initiative of the Federal Government—part of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu’s broader agenda for economic diversification and rural revitalization.

This development follows a strategic meeting in Abuja between the Commissioner for Agriculture and Rural Development, Dr. Afees Abolore Alabi, and the Executive Secretary of NALDA, Engr. Segun Cornelius Adebayo.
In the company of the Commissioner was Hon. Suleiman Abdullahi Belle, Special Assistant to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq on Smallholder Farmers Intervention.

Dr. Afees Abolore Alabi described the initiative as a timely boost to Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq’s commitment to inclusive agricultural development in Kwara.

“This partnership reinforces our administration’s drive to empower our people through access to land, inputs, and infrastructure. It supports our long-term goals for food security, job creation, and rural transformation,” he said.

Key projects such as the Ora Farm Settlement Scheme will benefit directly, with each participating farmer receiving 5 hectares of farmland. Beyond land allocation, NALDA will provide essential infrastructure—schools, health centres, police posts, water reservoirs, perimeter fencing, and mechanization hubs—to support sustainable farming communities.

Mr. Segun Cornelius Adebayo pledged NALDA’s backing for the upcoming planting season through the provision of fertilizers, quality seedlings, agrochemicals, and tractor services. He also emphasized youths and women inclusion as central to the implementation of the initiative.

Other agricultural zones like the Oro-Ago plantation in Ifelodun LGA and the Agbeyangi plantation in Ilorin East will also receive attention. In Oro-Ago, 18,000 hectares will be dedicated to crop cultivation and pasture development, enhancing food production and improving security by transforming previously idle lands into productive agricultural zones.

Dr. Alabi confirmed the government’s readiness to roll out the programme across all the three senatorial districts, ensuring statewide impact. “This collaboration with NALDA is a significant leap forward in our efforts to achieve shared prosperity through agriculture,” he noted.

The partnership aligns with Kwara’s long-term agricultural transformation strategy, which prioritizes commercial expansion, value chain development, and rural economic upliftment through smart investments.

All stakeholders—including cooperatives, agribusinesses, and development partners—are encouraged to engage with the initiative and contribute to building a more food-secure and economically vibrant Kwara.
