Rest On, Senator Rafiu Ibrahim, A Mentor with A Difference – By Amofin Titilope Akogun

It is with a heavy heart and profound respect that I mourn the passing of Senator Rafiu Adebayo Ibrahim — a rare gem, a statesman of uncommon grace, and a mentor in the struggle for uplifting people and progress.

Senator Rafiu lived not just an outstanding life, but a life that touched countless others. His passion for service, his commitment to the development of Kwara South, and his tireless advocacy for equity and good governance are all hallmarks of a legacy that time cannot erase.

But for me, this loss is also deeply personal.

Senator Rafiu was the one who brought me into the Peoples Democratic Party — a pivotal moment that changed the trajectory of my political journey.

He saw something in me, gave me a seat at the table, and opened a door through which I now walk with purpose and responsibility. That gesture was not only an act of political trust but a personal investment in my growth. I am grateful beyond words.

He was a man who believed in empowering others. He didn’t hoard influence — he shared it. He didn’t lead with ego — he led with empathy. And even in disagreement, his integrity remained intact.

As I reflect on his passing, I find comfort in knowing that he lived a life of meaning. He poured himself into people, institutions, and causes that mattered. He left behind not just memories but a mission — to serve selflessly, to lead fearlessly, and to believe in the power of community.

We will continue that mission.

On behalf of myself, my family, and all those he inspired, I extend my deepest condolences to his loved ones, his political family, and the entire Kwara South community.

Rest well, distinguished Senator. Your legacy endures.
