Distinguished Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar, representing Kwara North Senatorial District in Nigeria’s National Assembly and Member of the 6th ECOWAS Parliament has joined other esteemed Parliamentarians, Head of States, and distinguished dignitaries from across West Africa in commemorating the 50th Anniversary of the Economic Community of West African States (ECOWAS) as activities unfold today in Lagos, Nigeria.
Senator Sadiq’s participation in this landmark event is a testament to his outstanding contributions to regional integration, peacebuilding, and democratic governance. His elevation to the 6th Legislature of the ECOWAS Parliament comprising only 115 members from across 15 West African nations is a direct reflection of his quality representation and consistent advocacy for unity and development. Among Nigeria’s 35 allotted seats (17 Senators and 18 House of Representatives members), Senator Sadiq’s inclusion is a significant recognition of his influence and leadership.
Since his assumption of office, Senator Sadiq has continued to uphold the ideals of diplomacy, economic development, and grassroots empowerment; principles that align with the core objectives of ECOWAS. His role in the ECOWAS Parliament positions Kwara North and Nigeria as key stakeholders in shaping policies that foster regional stability, economic cooperation, and human capital development.
As Nigeria’s President and current Chairman of the ECOWAS Authority of Heads of State and Government, His Excellency Bola Ahmed Tinubu leads the region in celebrating five decades of ECOWAS’s existence, Senator Sadiq congratulates the institution for its historic strides.
