••• Charges Kwarans to sustain support for APC-led Government

In commemoration of His Excellency Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq’s sixth (6th) anniversary in office, Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar, representing the good and decent people of Kwara North Senatorial District, on Monday, 2nd June 2025, embarked on a strategic media tour across key media establishments in Ilorin — including Midland FM, Kwara TV, and Emirates Radio to highlight and commend the visible and impactful achievements of Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq, CON, and the All Progressives Congress (APC)-led administration in Kwara State.
During the series of media engagements, Senator Sadiq delivered a passionate, data-backed assessment of the Governor’s six years of people-centered governance, asserting that Kwara State is now firmly on the path of unprecedented progress and sustainable development. He described the Governor’s leadership as characterized by prudence in resource management and as the fulfillment of the aspirations that birthed the historic Otoge movement, which sought a radical departure from decades of stagnation and misgovernance in the state.
> “What we are witnessing today is the realization of the hopes and promises made to the people during the Otoge struggle. Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has not only kept faith with the people but has also redefined governance with visible projects, policies, and programs that have positively impacted lives across the state,” Senator Sadiq reiterated.
Transforming Health and Education for a Better Kwara
Senator Sadiq emphasized that the Governor’s investments in health and education are both intentional and strategic, rooted in his belief that these sectors form the bedrock of any progressive society.
In the education sector, he commended the KwaraLEARN Project, which is revolutionizing public basic education by leveraging technology to enhance learning outcomes, improve teacher performance, and ensure real-time accountability. He highlighted the rehabilitation and equipping of hundreds of schools across the state, alongside the recruitment and training of over 8,000 qualified teachers, as a major milestone in restoring the quality and dignity of public education across the 16 LGAs of the state.
Similarly, in the health sector, the Senator acknowledged the recruitment and training of over 3,000 health workers, the rehabilitation of Health Centres, and the provision of essential medical equipment and supplies – all of which have significantly enhanced access to quality healthcare, particularly in rural communities.
> “Governor Abdulrazaq understands that a viable health system and a solid education sector are veritable instruments for long-term development. His bold investments in these areas are securing the future of Kwara State,” he added.
Boosting Agriculture and Ensuring Food Security
Senator Sadiq also highlighted significant achievements in the agricultural sector, noting that the Abdulrazaq-led administration has prioritized agricultural development as a key driver of economic growth and food security in the state.
He pointed to the annual support provided to farmers, including subsidized farm inputs, herbicides, improved seedlings, and access to modern machinery such as tractors and harvesters. He also lauded the administration’s facilitation of grants and low-interest loans through agricultural empowerment programs, which have empowered thousands of smallholder farmers and agribusinesses across the state.
> “Kwara’s agriculture sector is witnessing a silent revolution. With consistent support and access to modern tools and financing, our farmers are producing more, earning more, and contributing significantly to local food security,” the Senator noted.
These interventions, he stressed, have not only increased food production but also strengthened rural economies and reduced the state’s dependency on external food supplies.
Infrastructural Development and Economic Empowerment
As the proud representative of Kwara North, Senator Sadiq expressed deep appreciation for the Governor’s visible impact across the senatorial district and the state at large. He highlighted the rehabilitation of several township roads, restoration of waterworks projects, and the establishment of the Kaiama Shea Butter Factory amongst other projects which have the potential to create sustainable jobs for youths and women while boosting agro-processing value chains.
The Senator also acknowledged the facilitation and ongoing work on major federal and state road projects, notably the Bode-Saadu–Kaiama–Kosubosu Road, Bacita – Shonga – Lafiagi Road and the Kaiama–Kishi Road, which cumulatively span over 250 kilometers, effectively connecting towns across Kwara North and enhancing trade and agricultural commerce both within and beyond the region.
> “These roads are not just conventional interventions; they are economic corridors. They will connect our farmers to markets, our communities to opportunities, and our people to prosperity,” Senator Sadiq stated.
Sen. Sadiq also referenced the Ilorin Innovation Hub, Garment Factory, International Conference Centre, Tunde Idiagbon flyover and a host of other signature projects across different parts of the state as a testament to the Governor’s commitment to building a modern Kwara.
Security, Gender Inclusion, and Human Capital Development
The Chairman, Senate Committee on Trade and Investment as well as Rules and Business also further commended the Governor’s unwavering commitment to the security of lives and property across the state. Acknowledging recent unfortunate security challenges in parts of Kwara North and other parts of the state, he lauded the Governor’s prompt responses and revealed that community-based vigilante groups are currently undergoing training to support law enforcement agencies already deployed to affected areas in tackling insecurity.
On gender inclusion, he celebrated Kwara State’s recognition as a national trailblazer – the first state in Nigeria to meet the 35% gender representation threshold in political appointments, thereby empowering women and creating role models for the next generation.
He also emphasized the administration’s human capital development initiatives, which have empowered thousands of youths through vocational training, startup support, and skills acquisition programs under the Kwara State Social Investment Program (KWASSIP), aimed at reducing unemployment and fostering self-reliance.
A Call to Collective Continuity
Senator Sadiq concluded his media tour with a clarion call to all Kwarans to continue supporting Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq and the APC, stressing that continuity in good governance is essential for consolidating the remarkable gains achieved over the past six years.
> “We have seen the difference. We have seen results. What Governor Abdulrahman Abdulrazaq has done in six years is what many administrations could not achieve in decades. Let us sustain this momentum and continue to build a Kwara that works for all,” the Senator urged.
As Kwara State continues to set new benchmarks in governance and development, voices like that of Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar underscore the enduring value of visionary leadership, political will, and collective commitment to progress.
