UNILAG Don, Professor Oloyo Urges Kwara Youths to Prioritize Career Planning, Mentorship

In a recent career development session with youths from Kwara State, Professor Ahmed Oloyo, a renowned Professor of Cardiovascular Physiology at the College of Medicine, University of Lagos, emphasized the critical importance of intentional career planning and mentorship for the next generation.

An indigene of Ajase-Ipo in Irepodun Local Government Area of Kwara State, Professor Oloyo expressed concern over what he described as a growing disconnect between the current generation and the historic professional legacy of the Igbomina people—a region known for producing technocrats and professionals across various fields.

“Igbomina land has long been a fertile ground for nurturing technocrats,” Professor Oloyo remarked. “However, it appears the younger generation is not aligning with this tradition. There is a need to advocate for, guide, and, where necessary, challenge our youth to pursue meaningful and impactful careers.”

The one-on-one dialogue was part of a broader initiative organized by a coalition of like-minded individuals committed to youth empowerment in Kwara State. The session served not only to share personal insights but also to ignite ambition and a sense of purpose among young people.

Professor Oloyo called on community leaders, educators, and policymakers to invest more significantly in structured mentorship programs and career choices. He stressed that breeding future generations of professionals and innovators begins with deliberate conversations, access to role models, and early exposure to career opportunities.
