NICO Joins Commemoration of 2025 World Refugee Day At UNILORIN

The National Institute for Cultural Orientation (NICO) has said it will continue to recognize and celebrate the cultural contributions refugees bring to their new communities. 

The North Central Zonal Director of the Institute, Mrs. Francisca Okoro made this known on Friday, June 20, 2025 at an event to commemorate the 2025 World Refugee Day with the theme: “Community as Superpower.

Represented by Mrs. Abolarin Bolaji Shalom, Mrs. Okoro noted that culture plays a vital role in the integration process, thereby fostering understanding, and promoting a sense of belonging.

The event was organized in collaboration with the Centre for Peace and Strategic Studies (CPSS), University of Ilorin; the National Commission for Refugees, Migrants and Internally Displaced Persons; the Nigerian Red Cross Society; Kwara State Emergency Management Agency (KWASEMA); and the National Orientation Agency (NOA).

The gathering further highlighted the collective efforts of various agencies and stakeholders in addressing the challenges faced by refugees, migrants, and internally displaced persons, emphasizing the vital role of community support in their resilience and well-being.
