Senator Sadiq Umar Mourns Ex-Kwara Gov, C.O. Adebayo, Hails Him as a Principled Democrat


The Senator representing Kwara North Senatorial District, Sadiq Suleiman Umar, has joined other prominent Nigerians in mourning the passing of the first civilian Governor of Kwara State, Chief Cornelius Olatunji Adebayo.


Chief Adebayo passed away on Wednesday at the age of 84.


In a statement released on Wednesday, Senator Umar described the late elder statesman as a towering figure in Nigeria’s political history and a shining example of integrity in public service.


According to the statement, “I received with deep sadness, yet with total submission to the will of Almighty God, the news of the passing of His Excellency, former Governor Cornelius Olatunji Adebayo.”


The senator paid tribute to Adebayo’s legacy, noting his significant contributions to the state and nation.


“C.O. Adebayo, as he was fondly known, was a towering figure in our political and national life – an accomplished statesman, a principled democrat, and a shining example of integrity in public service,” Umar stated.

“Throughout his life, he stood firmly for noble ideals and the advancement of society.”


The lawmaker further stated that the former governor’s commitment to good governance remains a benchmark for future leaders.


“As a former Governor, Minister, and elder statesman, he carried himself with uncommon dignity, wisdom, and clarity of purpose. His contributions to the development of our dear Kwara State and Nigeria at large were profound and enduring,” he added.


On behalf of the people of Kwara North, Senator Umar extended his deepest sympathies to the bereaved family and the entire state.


“I extend my heartfelt condolences to the Adebayo family, Kwarans, friends, and all associates of the late elder statesman. May the Almighty grant us all the fortitude to bear this loss, and may He repose the gentle soul of His Excellency in eternal peace.” the statement concluded.
