FG Engages EU, UNESCO on Cultural Diplomacy, Creative Economy

The Federal Government of Nigeria has partnered with the European Union, UNESCO on strategic ways to strengthen cultural diplomacy and creative economy.

This development was confirmed on Wednesday when the Honourable Minister of Arts, Culture, and Creative Economy, Hannatu Musa Musawa, hosted a crucial meeting with the representatives from the European Union (EU) Delegation, UNESCO, and other international partners.

Speaking, Musawa noted that the gathering is to strengthening cultural cooperation and leveraging culture as a key driver for national development.

“This meeting underscored culture’s indispensable role in shaping national identity, attracting foreign investment, and fostering job creation within Nigeria’s burgeoning creative sector” She added.

Key highlights from the discussions included an upcoming €20 million museum partnership initiative, signaling a significant investment in the preservation and promotion of Nigeria’s rich cultural heritage.

Furthermore, plans were unveiled for a major creative economy summit, designed to coordinate efforts and maximize synergy across the diverse segments of the creative industry.

Action points arising from the meeting are set to advance follow-ups with UNESCO, enhance data mapping for more targeted interventions within the sector, and ensure that all future projects align seamlessly with the Ministry’s strategic vision for arts, culture, and the creative economy.
