The Nigerian Senate has passed a bill sponsored by Kwara South Senator and Deputy Senate Leader, Architect Oyelola Ashiru to upgrade the Federal Polytechnic Offa to a University status.
The Senate during its plenary session on Thursday, July 10, 2025, presided over by Senate President Godswill Akpabio, passed the bill titled “Federal Universities of Technology, Offa Act (Amendment) Bill, 2025,” seeking to upgrade the Federal Polytechnic Offa in Kwara State to a university.
With its passage by the Senate, the bill now awaits the crucial assent of President Bola Ahmed Tinubu to become law.
This development follows similar upgrades of polytechnics to university status in other parts of the country, with President Tinubu having previously assented to bills upgrading the Federal Polytechnic Ilaro in Ogun State and the Federal Polytechnic Kano.
9japarrot report that Senator Ashiru had previously sponsored a similar bill in the 9th Senate, which passed but did not receive presidential assent before the end of the term, making this a renewed effort.
