FG Declares July 15 Public Holiday in Honor of Late President Buhari



The Federal Government of Nigeria has declared Tuesday, July 15, 2025, a public holiday in honor of the late former President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria, Muhammadu Buhari, GCFR. The declaration comes as part of the seven days of national mourning announced by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu GCFR.

The announcement was made by the Honourable Minister of Interior, Dr. Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo, on behalf of the Federal Government, following approval from President Bola Ahmed Tinubu.

Minister Tunji-Ojo through Dr. Magdalene Ajani, the Permanent Secretary, stated that the holiday is a mark of respect for the late President’s dedicated service to the nation, his significant contributions to Nigeria’s democratic journey, and his lasting legacy in governance and national development.

“President Muhammadu Buhari served Nigeria with dedication, integrity, and an unwavering commitment to the unity and progress of our great nation. This public holiday provides an opportunity for all Nigerians to reflect on his life, leadership, and the values he upheld,” the Minister remarked.

He further urged citizens to use the day to honor the late President’s memory by promoting peace, patriotism, and national cohesion, aligning with Buhari’s vision for a prosperous and united Nigeria.
National flags are to continue flying at half-mast for the duration of the seven-day mourning period, which commenced on Sunday, July 13, 2025.

The Federal Government extended its deepest condolences to the family of the late President, the people of Katsina State, and all Nigerians, offering prayers for the peaceful repose of his soul.
