Saraki: A Legacy of Service, A Blueprint for Progress – By Engr. Ridwan Elemosho

In a time when leadership has been reduced to camera shows and propaganda-laced tweets, it’s crucial to remind Kwarans of what it means to govern with purpose. Dr. Abubakar Bukola Saraki is not just a former Governor or Senate President, he is a symbol of transformational leadership, and his work remains a reference point for serious minds.

For anyone genuinely interested in facts over fiction, Saraki’s achievements are not hidden. They are well documented particularly in his book “A Record of Delivering Real Solutions” a publication that showcases in detail how vision, commitment, and reform-oriented leadership turned Kwara into a national model.

Between 2003 and 2011, Saraki reengineered governance. He didn’t inherit excuses, he delivered results. He revived the health sector, introduced Nigeria’s first Community Health Insurance Scheme, and invested in primary healthcare across all LGAs. He transformed education, digitized IGR, reformed the civil service, and opened Kwara up to international investment through the Zim-Kwara agricultural initiative, which made Kwara a model in food production.

But more importantly, Saraki built people. He discovered, mentored, and empowered many of the political actors in Kwara today. The likes of Bolaji Abdullahi, now ADC spokesman, and former Governor Abdulfatah Ahmed, both rose to prominence by serving under him, trusted with responsibilities when they were unknowns on the political stage. Today, if they have decided to walk away from the hands that brought them into relevance, especially during this period of political challenge, it is their decision to make. No bitterness. History will judge all of us by our loyalty to truth and our courage during trying times, not by our opportunism.

We are not here to mourn their absence. We are focused on the mission. The struggle is not about individuals, it is about values. Some may choose to jump ship, but the ship remains because it was built on integrity, not convenience.

Even after 2019, when propaganda attempted to bury legacy, Saraki never relented. Through the ABS Foundation, he continues to touch lives  from medical interventions to youth empowerment, from community borehole repairs to educational support. While others deploy state machinery to suppress dissent, Saraki empowers voices and builds futures.

This is the same man who chaired the Nigeria Governors’ Forum, rose to become Senate President, and was celebrated across Africa for his foresight and nationalistic policies. You don’t stumble into those positions, you earn them through performance, credibility, and vision.

Yes, the road has been rough. We’ve faced betrayals, defamation, and setbacks. But we’ve also witnessed resilience, loyalty, and renewed hope. Young people are rising again. The truth is catching up with lies. Kwara is opening its eyes.

So, to those still trapped in the echo chamber of “Otoge,” we ask: after six years, what exactly have you delivered that matches what Saraki achieved over a decade ago?

Let it be known, this movement will outlive the betrayal of today. And if anyone needs proof of Saraki’s legacy, we are ready to present it in books, in records, in communities touched, and in lives transformed.

2027 is not just about elections. It’s about restoring dignity, performance, and progressive politics. Saraki may not be in power today, but his impact remains in the hearts of the people and the pages of our history.
