•••• Kwara Police Condemn Jungle Justice, Warn Residents Against Taking Laws Into Their Hands

A destitute woman was lynched by a mob in Ilorin on Thursday after being falsely accused of kidnapping.
The incident occurred around 9:00 a.m. in the popular Ipata market area of the Kwara State capital, where members of the public reportedly mistook the victim for a kidnapper.
Eyewitnesses said the mob quickly descended on her, beating her severely.
Police patrol teams were mobilized to the scene and rescued the woman, rushing her to the General Hospital, Ilorin.
However, doctors confirmed she had died from the injuries sustained.
It was gathered that her body has since been deposited in the hospital mortuary.
Reacting to the incident, the Kwara State Police Command condemned the mob action, describing it as “barbaric and unacceptable.”
In a statement signed by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi and made available to the public on Thursday, the Command warned that jungle justice undermines the rule of law and endangers innocent lives.
The Commissioner of Police, CP Adekimi Ojo, appealed to residents to remain calm and law-abiding, stressing that mob violence only worsens insecurity.
He urged members of the public to report suspicious activities to the nearest police station rather than taking the law into their own hands.
“The Kwara State Police Command strongly condemns the act of jungle justice. Security challenges cannot be resolved through mob action. We urge residents to partner with the police in upholding law, order, and justice,” the statement read in part.
The police said investigations into the incident have commenced.
