The Distinguished Senator representing Kwara North Senatorial District, Senator Sadiq Suleiman Umar, has extended his heartfelt felicitations to the revered Royal Fathers of Kaiama and Yashikira, His Royal Highness, Alhaji Muazu Omar Bagidi Kiyaru IV, the Emir of Kaiama and Alh. Dr. Ambassador Usman Sariki Umar. The Sabikpasi II, the Emir of Yashikira on the celebration of the historic 2025 Gaani Festival held on Saturday, 13th September 2025.
The Gaani Festival, with its centuries-old heritage, remains a symbol of the identity, resilience, and unity of the Borgu people. It is celebrated with colorful displays of horsemanship, praise-singing, drumming, and cultural dances that attract sons and daughters of the land, friends, and well-wishers from within and beyond Nigeria’s borders.
Senator Sadiq Umar described the festival as not only a celebration of cultural pride but also a unifying bridge across the diverse communities of Borgu in Kwara, Niger, and the Benin Republic. According to him:
> “The Gaani Festival reminds us of the enduring values of brotherhood, mutual respect, and cultural preservation that bind our people together. At a time when unity is most needed for progress, this festival continues to serve as a rallying point for peace, harmony, and togetherness.”
The Chairman on Rules and Business as well as Trade and Investment at the 10th Senate also highlighted the immense tourism and economic potential of the Gaani Festival, noting that its unique cultural appeal positions Borgu land as a beacon of heritage tourism in Nigeria and West Africa. He urged stakeholders, governments, and the private sector to harness this cultural asset to drive socio-economic growth, create opportunities for youth, and project the image of Kwara North as a hub of cultural excellence.
Senator Sadiq reaffirmed his commitment to supporting initiatives that promote peace, unity, and development across Kwara North, while praying for the long life, wisdom, and continued reign of the Emirs.
He concluded by wishing the Emirs, the good people of Kaiama and Yashikira, and all celebrants of the 2025 Gaani Festival who have traveled from far and near a peaceful and joyous celebration.
