Betrayal of a Benefactor: Abia Govt Exposes Benjamin Kalu’s Treachery Against Sen. Orji Uzor Kalu

The Abia State Government has issued a blistering statement exposing what it calls a “shameful pattern of treachery, deceit, and betrayal” by the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu, particularly against his political benefactor and mentor, Senator Orji Uzor Kalu
In the statement signed by Mr. Ferdinand Ekeoma, Special Adviser to Governor Alex Otti on Media and Publicity, the government accused the Deputy Speaker of biting the very hand that fed him — a man who nurtured, financed, and built his political career from scratch.

“The attention of the Abia State Government has been drawn to recent utterances and conduct of the Deputy Speaker of the House of Representatives, Rt. Hon. Benjamin Okezie Kalu. It has become necessary to address his growing pattern of deceit, betrayal, and arrogance, which continue to raise questions about his moral integrity and suitability for leadership,” the statement began.

According to the government, Kalu’s political rise was not a product of hard work or merit, but the benevolence of Senator Orji Uzor Kalu, former Governor of Abia State and current Senator representing Abia North.

“It is on record that Senator Orji Uzor Kalu played a major role in Benjamin Kalu’s rise to prominence; mentoring him, financing him, and even providing the flight ticket that took him abroad. Senator Kalu, out of goodwill, gave Benjamin Kalu 25% of his shares in Bende Export Limited, despite owning 100% of the company. Sadly, Benjamin Kalu squandered the entire investment, leaving his benefactor with nothing,” the statement revealed.

The government noted that Senator Kalu remained magnanimous, standing by Kalu again during his political pursuits and helping him secure a House of Representatives seat — even at the expense of his own brother from Igbere.

“But instead of gratitude, Benjamin Kalu repaid kindness with betrayal, turning against the very man who built him,” the statement said, adding that his recent actions against Senator Kalu have “exposed him as a man driven by greed, arrogance, and unrestrained pride.”

The Abia Government condemned Kalu’s alleged attempts to undermine and malign Senator Orji Uzor Kalu before President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, describing such conduct as the height of political treachery.

“It is regrettable that he has continued this shameful pattern by gossiping and maligning Senator Orji Uzor Kalu before President Bola Ahmed Tinubu, forgetting the hands that once lifted him. Such behaviour exposes him as untrustworthy and unfit to speak about governance or to aspire to lead Abia State,” the statement declared.

Mr. Ekeoma further emphasized that Governor Alex Otti, who served as Senator Kalu’s banker at the time, is fully aware of the financial and personal support Orji Uzor Kalu extended to Benjamin Kalu — evidence that underscores the extent of the Deputy Speaker’s betrayal.

“Those who know the history understand that without Senator Orji Uzor Kalu’s generosity, there would be no Benjamin Kalu in the political space today. It is a story of betrayal that should serve as a moral lesson to every leader about the dangers of lifting men without character,” the statement added.

Reaffirming the government’s stance on moral accountability and integrity in leadership, Ekeoma stressed that Abia deserves leaders who embody loyalty, gratitude, and humility — virtues Senator Orji Uzor Kalu has long represented.

“Abia deserves better. The Government remains focused on transparent leadership and the delivery of good governance, and will not be distracted by individuals whose political survival depends on lies, betrayal, and deceit,” he concluded.
