The Muslim Students’ Society of Nigeria (MSSN), Kwara Area Unit, has strongly condemned the alleged denial of entry to a Muslim female student at the Federal Staff Secondary School, Adewole, Ilorin, for wearing the hijab — describing the incident as a gross violation of her constitutional and judicially guaranteed rights.
In a press statement issued on Tuesday, October 7, 2025, and signed by the Amir (Chairman) of MSSN Kwara Area Unit, Adnan Muhammad Nasir and obtained by Just Event Online TV , the Society described the action as unlawful, intolerant, and a flagrant disregard for the 1999 Constitution of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and the Supreme Court judgment in Asiyat AbdulKareem & Ors v. Lagos State Government (SC.910/2016), which upholds the right of Muslim female students to wear the hijab in public institutions.
“This act represents a gross abuse of authority, a flagrant display of religious intolerance, and a direct insult to millions of Muslims across the country,” the statement read. “It is inconceivable that in 2025, despite clear legal precedents, Muslim students are still being harassed and humiliated for obeying their Creator.”
The MSSN called for an immediate investigation and disciplinary action against all officials involved in the incident, stressing that the hijab is a divine injunction recognized by Nigerian law and not a symbol of rebellion.
“No teacher, administrator, or institution possesses the authority to contravene the Constitution or trample upon a citizen’s right to religious expression,” the statement added.
The Society urged state and federal education authorities to act swiftly to prevent similar occurrences in all federal, state, and non-faith-based private schools.
Reaffirming its commitment to lawful advocacy, MSSN Kwara stated that it would pursue the matter to its logical conclusion through all legal and administrative channels available.
“We are law-abiding citizens, but not weak spectators,” the statement concluded. “This matter will not be swept under the carpet — it will be pursued and documented until justice is served.”
