NANS Director, Tope Olugbemi Hails Lagos Gov’s Aide on Tech Training, Calls for Urgent Review of Nigeria’s Curriculum

The National Association of Nigerian Students (NANS) has commended the initiative of Hon. Kappo Samuel, the Senior Special Assistant (SSA) to the Lagos State Governor on Tertiary Education, for launching a free Software Quality Assurance (SQA) training program aimed at bridging the gap between academia and industry.

According to a press statement obtained by 9japarrot media, the commendation was delivered by Comrade Tope Olugbemi, the NANS National Director of Mediation and Reconciliation (under the Office of the National Senate President), who represented the SSA at the closing remarks of the training’s opening session at the Lagos State College of Education (LSCOETH) centre.

Comrade Olugbemi praised the SQA initiative as a timely and intelligent move, encouraging political leaders and student stakeholders across the country to adopt a similar strategy.
He urged them to emulate the SSA by “becoming a bridge between the Institutions and the Industries” through organizing training that prepares students for the job opportunities in the digital age.

Olugbemi stressed that this approach is necessary given that many courses taught in higher institutions are becoming obsolete.

Using the platform, the NANS Director issued a direct call to the Federal Government, urging a swift and comprehensive overhaul of the nation’s educational system.

Olugbemi specifically called on the Minister of Education and all stakeholders in the educational sector to quickly review the educational curriculum of Nigerian students and inculcate courses that are highly needed in the industries into the institutions.

He argued that students should not study for five years in university only to discover that their courses cannot solve current economic problems, let alone prepare them for future challenges.

As he concluded his speech, Comrade Olugbemi implored all attendees to take the free SQA training seriously, urging them to make Lagos State proud and become highly sought-after Quality Assurance Engineers in multinational organizations.
