Kwara Poly Alumnus Selected for Youth Artivism Festival on Gender-Based Violence

A Kwara-based photojournalist, Abdullahi Sanni, has been selected to participate in the Youth Artivism Festival on Gender-Based Violence (GBV), a platform that brings together young creative advocates using art and storytelling to promote gender equality and end all forms of violence.

Abdullahi, a Higher National Diploma (HND) graduate of Mass Communication from Kwara State Polytechnic, Ilorin, is widely known for his exceptional visual storytelling and deep passion for social change. During his time on campus, he served in key leadership roles including Public Relations Officer of the Mass Communication Department, Co-Convener of the Kwara Poly Campus Press, and Media Assistant to the SUG President.

A seasoned journalist and content creator, Abdullahi previously served as Senior Reporter and Head of News Unit at Sho Pen Online. He currently works as a Visual Storyteller in the Office of the Senior Special Assistant to the Kwara State Governor on Communications, where he documents the developmental strides, programs, and interventions of Governor AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq across various sectors.

Beyond journalism, Abdullahi volunteers as a Media Officer for Musty Football Academy, one of Kwara’s leading football academies. His storytelling spans health, sports, politics, education, and culture — with a particular interest in documenting the rich heritage of the Ilorin Emirate. Since 2023, his captivating images from the annual Ilorin Emirate Durbar Festival have been featured in top national dailies including Punch, Vanguard, The Nation, and others.

He was also an INEC-accredited photojournalist during the 2023 General Elections, further demonstrating his commitment to professionalism and civic engagement.

Speaking on his selection, Abdullahi expressed excitement and described the opportunity as a call to use art for social good.

“I believe photography can do more than tell stories. It can inspire empathy, challenge harmful norms, and drive change. Being part of this festival strengthens my resolve to use my lens to advocate for a world free of gender-based violence,” he said.

The Youth Artivism Festival on GBV organized by Brain Builders Youth Development Initiative (BBYDI), provides a space for young creatives to collaborate, learn, and amplify voices promoting equality, dignity, and justice. Abdullahi’s inclusion underscores his growing influence as a young voice for positive change in Kwara State and beyond.

The Art Exhibition is scheduled to hold at 9AM on Thursday October 30th at Kwara State Banquet Hall opposite Government house.
