Amofin Titilope Akogun has commended the leadership of the Kwara State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for what he described as a courageous, timely, and patriotic intervention in calling for the declaration of a State of Emergency in Kwara State in response to the worsening insecurity ravaging the state.
In a statement issued on Monday, Amofin Akogun noted that the PDP’s position reflects the genuine fears, pains, and frustrations of ordinary Kwarans, particularly communities in Kwara North and Kwara South that have suffered persistent attacks, killings, kidnappings, and displacement at the hands of criminal bandits.
According to him, the disturbing confessions by arrested criminal elements allegedly implicating officials of the Kwara State Government in the supply of arms and logistics are too grave to be ignored or treated with political levity.
“When allegations of this magnitude arise touching directly on the security of lives and property the responsible course of action is not denial or propaganda, but full transparency, accountability, and an independent investigation,” Amofin Akogun stated.
He stressed that the call by the Kwara PDP for a State of Emergency is not an act of political hostility, but a constitutional mechanism aimed at protecting lives, restoring public confidence, and salvaging the state from further descent into chaos.
Amofin Akogun further observed that insecurity has crippled farming, trade, education, and community life across large parts of the state, leaving families traumatised and livelihoods destroyed.
“Kwara has reached a point where extraordinary measures are required. Declaring a State of Emergency, if properly implemented, would allow for a neutral, transparent, and interference-free security intervention, free from political influence,” he said.
He called on the President of the Federal Republic of Nigeria and relevant national security institutions to treat the situation in Kwara State as a matter of urgent national concern, stressing that the safety of citizens must always supersede political considerations.
*Amofin Akogun also urged civil society organisations, traditional institutions, religious leaders, and the media to rise above partisanship and support all lawful efforts aimed at restoring peace, justice, and security in the state.*
“*This is not about PDP versus APC.*
This is about Kwara versus insecurity, fear, and lawlessness. Any leader or citizen who truly loves Kwara must support decisive action at this critical time,” he added.
He concluded by reaffirming his solidarity with the Kwara PDP, the people of Kwara State, and all victims of insecurity, while calling for truth, justice, and accountability as the only path to lasting peace.
