PDP Demands Suspension of Gov AbdulRazaq over Alleged State Sponsorship of Banditry

••• Calls for Federal Investigation into Arms Supply

The Kwara State Chapter of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has raised a grave national security alarm, calling for the immediate suspension of Governor Mallam AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq and the declaration of a state of emergency in the state.

This development follows a widely circulated video where arrested criminal bandits allegedly implicated the state government in the supply of AK-47 rifles and a government-crested operational vehicle.

Addressing a press conference at the party’s secretariat on Monday, the State Chairman of the PDP, Honorable Isa Bawa Adamu physically represented by the Vice Chairman and State Secretary described the situation as a most disturbing, weighty, and grave national security concern that has placed Kwara on the national spotlight for the wrong reasons.

PDP’s demand is based on a viral video showing criminal suspects, reportedly apprehended by the Nigerian Army in Auchi, Edo State, being interrogated.

The party quoted one of the suspects as allegedly saying:

“The Ilorin government him gave us this motor and the weapons. They were the ones that gave us the rifles, we go on patrol many times with them, including Oga Victor. All of them are involved.”

They asserted that this video is direct evidence of state sponsored criminality, noting that the bandits claimed the weapons came from officials of the Ilorin Government and the vehicle was a government patrol van procured by the AbdulRazaq-led administration and distributed to Local Governments.

The party drew a frightening connection between the confession and a past security incident including the Oke-Ode Massacre, which they noted that the name “Oga Victor,” mentioned by the suspects in the Edo confession, is the same name alleged by villagers to be a government agent who disarmed local hunters in Oke-Ode, Ifelodun LGA, just hours before a deadly bandit attack on September 28, 2025, where over 15 people were killed.

The party stated that this allegation comes amid an unimaginable wave of killings and kidnappings, citing a report by the International Centre for Investigative Reporting (ICIR) that over 507 persons were killed and at least 377 abducted in Kwara between January and November 2025.

The party made four stringent demands including;

1. Comprehensive Federal Investigation by President Bola Ahmed Tinubu which must order an urgent, comprehensive federal investigation into the suspects’ claims of state sponsorship

2. Suspension of Governor: the party demanded the declaration of a state of emergency in Kwara, including the immediate suspension of Governor AbdulRazaq, to allow for an unhindered, transparent investigation.

3. Suspension of Security Interface: The party demand that National Security Adviser (NSA) should advise all Service Chiefs to suspend official engagements with Governor AbdulRazaq or his representatives pending the conclusion of investigations.

4. Audit of LGA Vehicles: Demand that Security agencies, particularly the Police, must immediately commence the retrieval and transparent audit of all patrol vehicles allocated to local governments to ascertain if any remain in the hands of criminals.
