The Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC), Federal Capital Territory (FCT) Command has deployed 4,000 personnel to ensure security during the Christmas celebrations.
The Command’s Public Relations Officer, Monica Ojobi said this in a statement on Wednesday in Abuja.
Ojobi quoted the FCT Commandant, Mr Olusola Odumosu, as directing officers and men to be deployed across all parts of the territory before, during and after the Yuletide.
Odumosu said the deployment was aimed at safeguarding lives and property, as well as protecting Critical National Assets and Infrastructure (CNAI) within the FCT.
He explained that undercover operatives had been deployed for covert operations and surveillance to prevent emergencies or unforeseen incidents.
The commandant said the deployment cuts across specialised units, including the Arms Squad, Crack Squad, CNAI Unit, Chemical, Biological, Radiological, Nuclear and Explosives (CBRNE) Unit, Female Strike Force, Counter-Terrorism Unit and Agro Rangers.
Odumosu gave matching orders to area commanders and divisional officers to ensure effective security coverage across all area councils.
“All hands must be on deck. I will not tolerate any form of security breach. Ensure strict compliance by your personnel,” he directed.
He urged officers to conduct themselves professionally, work in synergy with other security agencies and strictly adhere to the rules of engagement, warning against harassment, intimidation or accidental discharge.
Odumosu assured residents of a safe and peaceful celebration, urging them to remain vigilant and report any suspicious movement to security agencies.
He warned criminals and vandals to stay away from critical national assets, noting that covert operatives and patrol teams were fully deployed across the city.
The commandant wished FCT residents and Christians a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.
