Kwara NIPR Mourns Chief Imam of Ilorin

•• Describes His Demise as a Monumental Loss to Nigeria and the Muslim Ummah


The  Nigerian Institute of Public Relations (NIPR) has received with deep sorrow the news of the passing of the Chief Imam of Ilorin, Sheikh Muhammed Bashir Fulani, who died today, Monday 19th January, 2026 at the age of 75.

The Institute in a statement jointly signed by the chairman of the Kwara State Chapter of NIPR Mr. Gabriel Ogunade and General Secretary Mr Abdul Rahman Sanni described the death of the revered Islamic cleric as a monumental loss, not only to the Ilorin Emirate and the Muslim Ummah, but also to Kwara State and Nigeria at large.

Sheikh Muhammed Bashir Fulani, who became the Chief Imam of Ilorin in 1983, according to the statement, dedicated over four decades of his life to the service of Islam, spiritual guidance, and the promotion of peace, tolerance, and moral uprightness in the society.

The NIPR explained that throughout his tenure, the late Chief Imam was widely respected for his depth of knowledge, humility, and unwavering commitment to truth and justice, pointing out that he served as a unifying force, whose sermons and counsel transcended religious boundaries and contributed immensely to peaceful coexistence and communal harmony in Ilorin and beyond.

It observed that his life exemplified selfless service, devotion to God, and compassion for humanity.

The Kwara State Chapter of NIPR then extended its heartfelt condolences to the Emir of Ilorin, His Royal Highness Alhaji (Dr.) Ibrahim Sulu-Gambari, the Ilorin Emirate Council, the family of the deceased, the Council of Ulamas, and the entire Muslim community on this great loss, and  prayed   Allah to grant them the fortitude to bear the irreparable loss.

As we mourn the departure of this eminent religious leader, we take solace in the enduring legacy of faith, integrity, and service he has left behind. May Almighty Allah forgive his shortcomings, reward his good deeds abundantly, and grant him Al-Jannatul Firdaus.
