The performance and commitment of Senator Dr. Orji Uzor Kalu toward improving the socio-economic landscape of the Abia North Senatorial District is becoming increasingly visible, backed by verifiable testimonies from his constituents.
In this report, the spotlight is on Ohafia South Local Government Area (Ohafia Udumaeze), where the lawmaker has delivered a series of tangible, high-impact projects.
Through a sequence of targeted legislative interventions, the Senator representing Abia North has successfully executed a multi-billion naira developmental roadmap designed to address decades of infrastructural neglect. Leaders in Ohafia Udumaeze have described these interventions as unmatched, noting that the lawmaker has successfully aligned local grassroots needs with federal resources.
Recent updates from the Ohafia Local Government Area showcase a strategic shift from mere representation to active community transformation, with projects cutting across five key wards: Ania, Okamu, Isiama, Ebem Oha, and Ohafor.
At the heart of Senator Kalu’s strategic achievements is an aggressive road construction drive. By February 2026, over 20 kilometers of critical rural roads have been either newly constructed or rehabilitated, facilitating the seamless movement of agricultural produce and personnel.
Similarly, key projects such as the 4km Isiugwu Ohafia Road, the 5km Abia Ohafia Road, and the Ebem Township Road have transformed previously impassable terrains into vibrant economic corridors.
Senator Kalu has also significantly improved the security architecture of the LGA through the installation of solar street lights across Akanu, Nkwebi, and Eziafor. The project has not only improved nighttime safety but has also boosted the local night market economy, proving that infrastructure is indeed the bedrock of security.
Building on his long-standing reputation as an “Education Senator,” Kalu has facilitated the reconstruction and furnishing of over 25 classroom blocks across Ohafia South. Notably, in Ebem Oha Ward, the Senator recently distributed free school uniforms to indigent pupils at Ebem Primary School; a gesture widely praised by the Head Teacher for easing the financial burden on low-income families.
Beyond structural repairs, his commitment to Empowering the Future is evidenced by the distribution of textbooks, desks, and school bags to institutions such as Amuma Community Secondary School and Offali Agwu Secondary School, ensuring that the “Renewed Hope” for Ohafia’s youth is backed by tangible resources.
Senator Kalu’s mark is felt not just on the roads but in the very lives of his constituents. The introduction of the One-Year Free Health Insurance Scheme at the General Hospital, Ohafia, remains a landmark achievement, providing hundreds of vulnerable citizens with access to quality medical care without the fear of financial ruin.
Furthermore, the provision of boreholes in Amangwu and Amaekpu has addressed chronic water scarcity, significantly reducing the prevalence of waterborne diseases in these communities.
With the construction of 11km in Ania Ward alone completed, the ongoing distribution of 1,000+ desks and 10,000+ textbooks, the installation of a 500KVA transformer in Amangwu, and the provision of Free Health Insurance for shortlisted vulnerable groups, the former Abia State Governor is not backing down in his quest to keep delivering the dividends of democracy for his people.
