Ramadan, Lent: Gov Adeleke Approves Reduced Working Hours for Osun Workers

Osun State Governor, Ademola Adeleke, has approved a reduction in working hours for public servants during the Ramadan and Lent fasting periods.

The announcement was contained in a statement by Olawale Rasheed, Governor Adeleke’s spokesperson on Thursday in Osogbo.

The governor in the statement disclosed that the measure is designed to support the state workforce observing the religious fasts.

According to the governor, “the adjusted timetable will take effect from Thursday, 19 February 2026, and will remain in force throughout the fasting season.”

Details of the directive were contained in a circular issued by the Office of the Head of Service and signed by Elder Ayanleye Aina.

The circular, titled “Closure of Work During Ramadan and Lent Fasting Periods,” outlined the revised closing times for government workers across the state.

It stated that public servants are to close work at 2:00 pm from Mondays to Thursdays and at 1:00 pm on Fridays during the period.

The document read, “As part of the welfare packages of the State Government for its workforce, the Executive Governor… has graciously approved that public servants should close work by 2pm from Mondays to Thursdays, and 1pm on Fridays, during the ongoing Ramadan and Lent seasons only.”

It added that the gesture is intended to give workers adequate time for prayers and spiritual activities during the fasting period.

The circular also clarified that workers engaged in essential services, particularly medical personnel, are exempted from the new arrangement because of the critical nature of their duties.

Political office holders, accounting officers of ministries, departments and agencies, heads of non-ministerial agencies, as well as local government authorities, were directed to comply fully and ensure the directive is widely communicated to their staff.
