An Oyo State High Court sitting in Ibadan has upheld the legitimacy of the 2025 National Convention of the Peoples Democratic Party, PDP.
The convention, held in Ibadan on November 15, 2025, has now been officially validated by the court.
Delivering judgment on Friday in Suit No. I/1336/2025, Justice Ladiran Akintola of Court 5 confirmed both the convention and the elections conducted during the event.
The court dismissed objections raised against the convention, noting that no sufficient evidence was provided to prove any breach of procedure or internal party regulations.
The ruling was in favour of the claimant, Folahan Malomo Adelabi, granting all 13 reliefs sought through his counsel, Musibau Adetunmbi (SAN).
Justice Akintola held that the convention complied with the provisions of the 1999 Constitution, the Electoral Act 2022 (as amended), and other relevant electoral laws.
The judgment affirms the emergence of the National Working Committee led by Kabiru Turaki as the substantive National Chairman, confirming the legality of the party’s new leadership structure.
Motions seeking a stay of proceedings and suspension of the ruling, filed by Sunday Ibrahim (SAN) on behalf of Austin Nwachukwu and two others, were also dismissed.
An earlier application for joinder by the same parties was rejected for lacking merit.
The decision finally puts a stop to the various disputes surrounding the convention and confirming Turaki’s position as PDP’s national chairman.
