The Governor of Benue State, Rev. Fr Hyacinth Alia, has praised President Bola Ahmed Tinubu for providing the Nigerian Army with sophisticated weapons and important military equipment to tackle security challenges across the country.
The development was disclosed in a statement signed by the acting Director of Army Public Relations, Colonel Appolonia Anele, on Thursday.
According to the statement, Governor Alia gave the commendation when he received the Chief of Army Staff, Lt Gen. Waidi Shaibu, during a courtesy visit at the Government House in Makurdi.
According to the governor, the support from the President is helping the army strengthen its operations in dealing with emerging security threats.
He welcomed the deployment of additional troops to strengthen operations in the state.
During the visit, the Chief of Army Staff assured the governor that the Nigerian Army is improving its operational capacity to achieve better security results in Benue State and other parts of the country.
He said the modern weapons and combat equipment made possible through the support of President Tinubu would significantly enhance the operational effectiveness of troops in tackling insecurity.
Lt Gen. Shaibu also praised the Benue State Government and the people of the state for their resilience and continued support for security agencies despite the challenges affecting parts of the state.
“I commend the cooperation given to troops of Operation WHIRL STROKE, as such support has contributed to the progress of our ongoing military operations. I urge the state government and residents to continue working closely with the military and other security agencies, as strong cooperation is essential to restoring lasting peace and stability,” he said.
