The Imole Campaign Council, representing Governor Ademola Adeleke, has raised a formal alarm regarding an alleged plot by the All Progressives Congress (APC) to compromise the integrity of the upcoming August 15, 2026, Osun State governorship election.
In a statement on Monday, the Council’s spokesperson, Pelumi Olajengbesi, Esq., claimed they have received “credible intelligence” of a scheme to pressure the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC) into prematurely closing polling units by 12:00 noon in specific opposition strongholds.
The campaign council contends that the plot is a strategic attempt to suppress voter turnout in areas loyal to Governor Adeleke.
According to the Council, this move is the latest in a series of failed efforts by the APC to influence the electoral outcome.
“The APC, after failing in its attempts to blot out Governor Adeleke and his party from the ballot through the courts, resorted to arbitrary arrests and intimidation,” Olajengbesi stated. “Now that those schemes have failed to weaken the resolve of the people, they are attempting to deploy federal might to sabotage the will of the Osun people.”
The Imole Campaign Council urged INEC to maintain its independence and uphold its own constitutional mandates.
Highlighting the stakes for Nigeria’s democratic stability, the Council called upon stakeholders to heighten their monitoring efforts during the Saturday polls:
“The credibility of our electoral institutions and the confidence of Nigerians in the democratic process are at stake. We call on civil society organisations, independent election observers, international bodies, and the media to remain vigilant and serve as active watchdogs against desperate political actors.”
As of the time of this report, the APC leadership in Osun State has yet to issue a formal response to these allegations.
INEC officials have historically maintained that voting continues at polling units as long as there are voters present in the queue by the official closing time.
